Becky Martin is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) at the Depression and Anxiety Specialty Clinic of Chicago. She graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from Illinois State University (ISU). Ms. Martin then continued at ISU to earn her Master of Science degree in Clinical-Counseling Psychology. During this time, Ms. Martin volunteered for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline answering crisis calls and training new volunteers.
Ms. Martin has experience working with a variety of mood, anxiety, and personality disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She completed her clinical practicum at a community mental health center in Central Illinois working with children, adolescents, and adults providing both individual and group therapy. At that time, Ms. Martin also facilitated Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills groups for adults. Prior to joining the team at DASC, Ms. Martin worked in an emergency room providing crisis counseling, assessment, and hospitalization placement as well as serving individuals with homelessness and substance abuse concerns.
Ms. Martin believes strongly that therapy should be a collaborative experience that emphasizes the client’s existing strengths and goals. She works to incorporate mindfulness and values in her work with clients to help them become fully present in their own lives. Ms. Martin utilizes evidenced-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). Currently, Ms. Martin leads the OCD Support Group and co-facilitates the Social Anxiety Group here at DASC.
